We are Out of the Blue, a professional steelpan trio based in West Sussex.
With over five years of experience performing together, we specialise in bringing warm, uplifting Caribbean melodies to weddings, community events, and family celebrations.
Whether you need a sophisticated musical backdrop or a relaxed performance, we bring the sunshine to every occasion.
Meet The Band
Gerry
tenor Pans
Gerry plays the tenor pan and typically takes the melody line, which often includes intricate solos and ornamentation.
He is a full-time professional drummer and percussionist who has performed locally, in West End theatres, and abroad. In addition to performing, Gerry arranges many of the pieces the band plays.
Johnan
Guitar Pans
Johnan plays the guitar pans. In addition to providing the rhythm, she normally takes the bass line, as these pans have the lowest register of the three.
An accomplished steelpan player, Johnan has a background in piano, guitar, and choral music, and also arranges many of the band pieces.
Julie
Alto Pans
On the double alto pans, Julie has the widest range of notes in the ensemble. Whilst she helps carry the rhythm, she also plays recurring riffs and takes the melody when a piece is set in a lower register.
Julie has a background in all types of dance and has worked extensively in theatre, touring with young performers.
Occasions & Events
We have enjoyed performing at a wide variety of events throughout Sussex, including weddings, private celebrations, Caribbean-themed parties, and community or Christmas gatherings.
